2025 was the coldest year in the Gulf of Maine since 2019. Water temperatures were below average when compared to the last five years, especially during early winter and spring. This change in temperature was visible in many of the biological data sets collected at the Reserve, most notably in the marine invasive species monitoring program (MIMIC) as well as the blue crab trapping efforts. Was this an anomaly or a shift in conditions that may persist? Come hear from Research Associate Jeremy Miller all about how a "cooler than usual" Gulf of Maine, affected the things that live there, and how this cooling period might be reflective of historical Gulf of Maine temperature regimes. FINALLY, a talk that does not center around a WARMING Gulf of Maine!
